Fit evening.

Buckwheat.

This it the first time for me trying buckwheat. I haven’t head of it before, but I ot it from a friend, who got it from Poland. I did some research and it sounds really healthy. I don’t think it is popular in Denmark (yet) since I haven’t tasted or seen it before. Do you eat it where you are from?

I don’t really like the taste nor the smell of it. Its ok but I prefer rice or couscous/bulgur. I am happy I got to taste buckwheat. Next I want to try Quinoa which should be very healthy too.

Weekend away.

I am off school from today until next wednesday and I am going to celebrate this small vacation by visiting three of my good friends, who live in another city and who I haven’t seen for a while. My morning workout is completed, my bags are packed, and I am ready to go. One of my friends is also into working out and I am sure we will have fun in the gym this weekend.

Leg day.

Tonight I spent two hours with my friend in the gym doing mainly leg and glute exercises, except for squats. I’ll save them for my next leg workout. On the picture I am about to do hip thrusters. Another important reason I forgot in my post about how to benefit from a fitness partner is that they can take photos of you for your blog when you don’t feel like posting a sweaty selfie haha.

Progress.

Many people have told me how important progress pictures are for your personal motivation. I believe, being able to see the result of your workout on your own body is a huge motivational factor. I know, I am getting stronger but lately it has become difficult for me to see any changes on my body. I look myself in the mirror everyday, and simply start to forget what I looked like before. I have never been fat, I just wasn’t very strong. Yesterday, I took pictures of myself for the first time since I started lifting weights and eating healthier. ‘Did I really look like that?’, was my first thought when I compared the two different pictures with approximately two months between. I got much more toned and my body position is much better. I couldn’t be happier.

Good company.

My top reasons how to benefit from a fitness partner.

  • Social. I am busy with school, homework, work and workout most days, and even though I wish, I don’t always have time to see all my friends every week. Instead of going to a café or go shopping, you can make working out together into a social thing. In that way you can both work out and catch up. This will make the time goes faster and the workout more fun. The downside is that too much talking can lead to ineffective workout. Balance is key.
  • Spotting. When I do bench press or squats by myself, I am afraid of getting stuck in an awkward position where I can’t get up again because I put too much weight on the barbell. I always try to push myself but yelling for help across the gym is not something I want to do.  If you are working out with a friend, you can help eachother and conquer the fear of putting too much weight on the barbell. He/she will be there to help you.
  • Motivation. It has been a long day at school/work and you’re dreaming about your bed. You have tons of homework and things to do, and on top of it all it’s raining. Your last motivation has left you, but you have a goal and you need to go to the gym to reach it. On days like this, having an appointment with your workout partner will get you to the gym. Make the appointment a day ahead and make a rule that you can’t cancel appointments (except for acceptional reasons ofcourse). Knowing your workout partner will be waiting for you at the gym will give you the push to go there. I mean, you can’t let your him/her down on leg day!
  • Competition. I am a competitive person and for that reason I like to have a workout partner that is stronger than me. It motivates me to try to reach his weight and I push myself more. Some people might feel weak with this method and they should choose a workout partner that matches their own strength level. Celebrate the success with a loud high five when either you or your workout partner becomes stronger.

After sleeping for 12 hours last night I was completely re-energized and couldn’t be more excited for the start of week two of my new workout plan. My five-times-a-week workout plan contains a new routine for each day for the different muscle groups. Today was upper body including eight different exercises.
